Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven down to the E. The soil color is greyish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Began excavation following the line of looser soil picked out by Tasos. Excavation continued until encountering black layer in center. Red soil to N and S of this context perhaps once connected prior. It would seem that the backfill occupies a later cut into the red soil. The eastern edge of the context is a large stone pillar, lying on its side N-S.
This context cuts wall 420, but based on pottery, it should date to the mid-12th century. This would seem to confirm our suspicion that 634 is a modern backfill context. We should, therefore, disregard its ceramic relationship with surrounding contexts.
