Notes: | This context was excavated following the excavation of 6476, foundations for a north-south oriented threshold. We have excavated the other surfaces above this one, which are early surfaces cut by many later features, including the threshold and piers. THIS surface [6488] has a relationship to the tiled portion of the storage pit cut- the tiles rested on top of it. When they were removed [as context 6458], a small swath of plastered surface was directly beneath them. Based on this, and in accordance with previous observations, we are probably still above the surface that the pit would have cut, since the plastering of that edge was probably an event that occurred AFTER the pit [6457] was cut. Additonal note: after excavating the plastered surface on which the tiles were laid, we realized that the surface revealed during the excavation of 6488 was cut by a second small pit, probably for the purposes of laying the tile. It also seems that the surface (as yet unnumbered) that was revealed by this context is the one cut by the pit; this surface was excavated later in the day as context | |
