Description:   The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is loose. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Our pioneering pickministers, the notable Kakouros brothers, approached this layer, having provided the scraping of the southern regions in context 648. It had its southern boundary at pit 193 and its northern boundary at wall 420. As we would come to discover, it had underneath of it another black layer, context 667, which continued under the wall. Both of these layers seem similar, and it seems extremely possible that the separation of 651 and 667 came about from an excess of caution by the careful Kakouroi. Though the dating of these layers is different, the later ceramic date sits under the earlier ceramic date, so the date for 667 must govern in any case.
This context was clearly visible to differ from the reddish soil to its west and from the different soil to the east. The wall and pit also formed strong distinguishing points, and left us unable to see how much further this area and 667 might have gone.
