Stratum:   90% small rounded, subrounded angular pebbles, less tile frags, sherds, bone
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This deposit is a patch of pebble-filled soil measuring approximately 79 cm X 55 cm. It is located at the center-south section of the 'pebble floor baulk' preserved in the northeast corner of the room. The context is a patch of extremely pebbly fill in an area with pebble floors at the north, east and west. These other floors have some pebbles as part of the floor matrix, but also include sporadic flat lying tiles, flat lying sherds and other small rocks. 6597 is much softer than the surrounding area, does not have a flat even surface and has a higher and more homogeneous number/type of inclusion.
We suspected the patch might be a wear-spot in the floor that had collected water. Perhaps as the depression deepened it filled with loose pebbles and other grit. Since this would have been an action later than the laying of the floor we removed the patch before the rest of the surface.
