Description:   The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We decided to investigate 659, exposed under 655 since it appears to be a deposit filling a cut into 663. The deposit was shallow and filled with much ash and charcoal. Not much cooking ware was found discarded within, however, so it is difficult to say how 659 was formed, except that it had something to do with burning. The context has itself been cut by Wall 420 to the south. Underneath the context the situation is very confused and we will proceed with the removal of the adjacent context 663 in order to hopefully clarify this.
