Description: | The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes: | This is a visibly darker pit like context directly to the north of apse 539. It was revealed by cleaning context 648 previously. The soil contexts surrounding it are confused in nature with poorly defined boundaries and multifarious colours. It is clear, however, that 665 should come out first since it cuts all of them. We sieved 100% but even though the soil was darker did not find any ash or carbon inclusions. A large amount of iron in various forms was retrieved, however. A large amount of pottery sherds was found and it is our belief that pit 665 probably was a dump for one of the occupants of one of the adjacent buildings in the vicinity. Upon excavation of this pit we can see another dark layer underneath, although with no boundaries yet visible. This would turn out to be pit 704.
