Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   6695 is a fill deposit below the floor south of well structure 6288. We began to remove a small bowl seemingly filled with small pottery fragments and stones. We could not see an intentional cut for the bowl, so we inferred that it was part of the fill. The small cup is faced downwards and the bottom portion was excavated in the 6883 context. Guy identified the glaze as Constantinopolitan white ware. We excavated the cup before the rest of the context. The compation became weakly cemented as we went down and the soil reddened.
11/4/10 addendum: 6695 was begun within the coordinates listed. However, as the excavation of the context proceeded, the southern and western limits expanded to include fill on the north side of wall 5631. This are was excavated previously in the 1960s and again in 2009. Thanassis said the material there was the same as the rest of 6695. It appeared that it was, in fact, more rocky than the rest of 6695 and probably should have been excavated separately. We will try to resolve this problem Monday, 12/4/10.
12/4/10: We halted this context up to the east side of well 6288 to dig inside the foundation cut and then to resume. Upon resuming, Thanassis found the cut for the robbin trench of wall 6421 extending north just east of the well, establishing a relative chronology: the wall-foundation cut-well. We surmise based on wall position and masonry style that this east-west wall was originally robbed out at the point where wall 6421 was laid to cut it. We closed this context to clean and define the rocks and stone of wall 6421.
