Stratum:   15% inclusions: tile, pottery, small rocks (ca. 3-6 cm.), tree roots; semi-compact soil
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is coarse sand.
Notes:   Context 6735 is a loose fill underlying the compact clay surface 6733. It is equal to the pits 6726, 6728, and 6731 -- all contexts have the same loose, reddish-brown soil with lots of inclusions (ca. 15%) of tile, pottery, small rocks, and some organic material. Perhaps what we interpreted as three pits and cuts in the clay surface were actually places where the clay surface was not laid, or where the clay surface experienced disruption by tree roots and/or insects and animals -- these are some possible explanations.
Context 6735 (= 6726 = 6728 = 6731) is possibly a subfloor for the clay surface. The soil underneath it is looser and has larger inclusions of tile and stones. We will change contexts to remove this looser stratum. Both 6735 and the context below it run against EW wall 5562, and NS walls 5394 and 5431.
