Stratum:   40% inclusions: small to medium sized rocks (ca. avg. 16-20 cm), tile, pottery
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is coarse sand.
Notes:   We are excavating 6763 in order to determine the relationship of this context to the ashy layer and compact surface revealed by the excavation of 6747 (see notes for 6747 for a sketch of the bottom plan). We are also hoping to clarify the relationship between this context and the context immediately to the South - 6759. At the bottom of 6759, the next stratum (very soft soil with inclusions of pottery, especially cookware, and bones) appeared to continue to the North, underneath the rubble fill of context 6763.
The soil of 6763 is loose, coarse sand, with lots of inclusions of small to medium sized rocks, tile, and some pottery. 6763 cuts the compact surface revealed by 6747. Several of the rocks in this fill are clearly wall fall from NS wall 5431 -- they have slumped down or fallen into the fill at an angle, stacked on top of each other, in the NE corner. Context 6763 and context 6759 both fill cut 6760 -- the two fills have slumped against each other, so the difference between the two fills is clear, but not sharp.
Towards the Southern boundary of 6763, we have found a line of stones running EW between NS walls 5431 and 6765 (the Western edge of cut 6760). The soil to the South of this "mini-wall" (= 6775) is greyish bown in color, with fewer and small inclusions than 6763; this soil is closer to the fill of 6759. It will be excavated as its own context (= 6770). To the North of this "mini-wall" the removal of the fill 6763 has revealed a white-ish brown soil, somewhat more compact than 6763, and with fewer inclusions. The Western and Northern borders of 6763 are delineated by an inwardly slumping fill of slightly more compact, clayey soil, with stone and tile inclusions.
