The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt. | | Notes: | | Excavation began in E and proceeded W. Sifting 50%. 10% Tile, 10 % Cobbles. Also pottery, bone, glass, marble (one large, flat, irregular piece, 14X11 cm. 2.8 cm. thick). One full bucket of pottery recovered within first 1.5 m of digging (ca. 18 buckets of dirt) = ~5 % potttery. Other pieces of white marble recovered: 2) 6X6 cm., 1.5 cm. thick. 3) 17.5X8 cm., 2.6 cm. thick. 4) 5X8 cm. very irregular in section ca. 5 cm. in diam./width. Also 1 small fragment, 0.6 cm. thick. Recovered additional bone, shell, iron, carbon, and one mosaic tessera from screen. Borders of context are clear - Bounded by red clay to N and S, and red clay by pit excavated as contexts 642 and 680 to E.
