| Description: | The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand. | |
| Notes: | Context 6801 is a clayey sand lump or deposit, revealed by the excavation of the ashy layer 6791. We are excavating this context in order to clarify the extent of the compact, reddish-brown stratum that was revealed by contexts 6791 and 6794. We are also hoping that the excavation of 6801 will help better our understanding of the stone feature revealed by context 6797. The soil of 6801 is semi-compact, clayey sand, with inclusions of small pebbles and rocks, some tile and pottery, some bone, and small flecks of charcoal. The stratum underneath is less clayey and has more incluisons of tile. The excavation of 6801 and 6803 (the stratum below) has shown that the stone feature revealed by 6797 is NOT a NS wall. | |
