Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is coarse sand.
Notes:   Context 6819 is a compact external floor surface, identical to that of context 6698 and the upper stratum of 6696 (see excavation notes for 6698 and 6696 for more information). This surface is very compact and has small to medium pebbles in its surface, as well as tiles laid flat on the surface -- this is why we consider it to be an external floor. This floor (6819 + 6698 + 6696) was cut in several places, e.g. by bothros 5595, robbing trench 5802, pithos 5504, and EW wall 5678. We had originally planned to excavate all of the external floor surfaces coterminously, but instead moved further to the East after uncovering the marble tile floor (= 5710). We are excavating 6819 now in order to unify the entire area of the trench and because the external floor surface possibly represents the latest feature still extant in the trench.
The soil of 6819 is compact and blackish/reddish brown in color. It has ca. 25% inclusions of small to medium pebbles, small rocks, tiles, some small flecks of charcoal, pottery, and some bone. The soil being revealed by the excavation of 6819 is loose, reddish-brown in color, and has ca. 40% inclusions of tile, small to medium rocks, and pottery. This new stratum seems to be the same as that revealed in the Northern portion of context 6815. This fill is optically similar to 6699, although with more inclusions (6699 = leveling fill directly under external floor surface 6698).
In the North-West area of 6819, we have come down on another floor surface. This one also appears to be an external space and is more compact than 6819. We will change contexts to excavate this second floor (= 6825).
