Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   6838 is a deposit of dark greyish brown fill which appears to be inside a bothros cut. It appears that the previous excavations in 2008 had not completely excavated the fill inside. There is a clear distinction between fill and outside of the cut 6840. The edge of the cut is reddish, while the fill is dark greyish brown. It looks as if the eastern and northern edge of the fill is clear, but PK has suggested that the fill may continue throughout the entire pit at the bottom. This fill may have been left from earlier excavation. We have decided to scrape down the bottom and have therefore opened 6843 to see if we need to dig deeper to remove all the fill entirely. The 2008 excavation, which continued and defined that of 1961 and identified the cuts made by that excavation, interpreted the walls of the pit as gently sloping as the cut moves west from vertical face to the east, but it is clear that the excavators in 2008 had not found the true edge of the pit, which is clearly defined by a baulk of red soil. The floor of the pit seems to be a mix of dark black soil, white patches, and patches of ashy soil, possibly indicating some sort of dump.
