| Stratum: | 10-15% inclusions: pottery, tiles, medium pebbles, a few boulders (sub-rounded and spherical), piece of marble (14x6cm). | |
| Description: | Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | Context 6850 was opened when we came down upon a tile floor cut into context 6846, as well as a change in soil color (to reddish brown) and evidence of a cut at northeastern edge of context, which appears to extend below deposit of fill in this context (6850). Found coin at (265.65, 1036.29, 83.93), flecks of carbon, and olive pit. 6850 was closed when several contexts were revealed underneath it, delineated by soil color. LATER NOTE (DPG 10-05-10): As we excavated 6850, a strip of E-W rubble, first noticed during excavation of 6842, was revealed. This could not be seen very well, because the context sloped down to the east, whereas the rubble is located on the west of 6850 and this area was not excavated to any appreciable depth. Excavation of contexts 6868, 6869, and 6872 revealed more of this rubble, which is now Wall 6876 (structure). | |
