| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt. | |
| Notes: | 6898 was opened after partial excavation of built pithos 6991. It was determined that the fill N of the pithos would have to be taken down in order to allow excavation of pithos fill to continue, because of the restrictions on space and fear of contamination of pithos fill by the area that is now 6898. Excavation proceeded until a change in soil color, to reddish brown (cf. 6902), was revealed. 6898 may be a levelling fill of some sort; however, there is no evidence of a floor. There was a rubble foundation above this area (6100), which was removed in 2009, so it appears that this soil has been exposed for about a year (hence excavation dry). | |
