Description:   The soil color is reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   Small stony area to E of W694 and abutting 688
After the successful completion of context 682, a number of contexts were left visible. Two to the E of wall 694 were 688 and 693. We believe that they may in fact be the same context, but chose to excavate them as separate contexts since 693 featured more small stones. There were no obvious clues as to why this might be, though one might glance meaningfully at wall 694. In any case, we unleashed our hounds of pick, Panos and Tasos Kakouros on 693, and they cleared the context, showing its relationship to wall 694 and the surrounding areas. The context was fairly small, and we found very little within it--no fineware, no small finds. It is probable that it is related to a nearby context. It sits atop the more or less NE-SW running mixed black layer 741, along with reddish areas that we have not yet excavated.
