Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   6942 is the third layer of fill under the hearth structure (6807). We wonder about how 6942 relates to 6807, other areas of ash nearby and wall 6821. The ashy fill here is generally soft, but to the east and north the soil is more compact and burnt. When we came upon the harder-packed ash, we started sieving only 25% of the soil. The soft ashy soil has continued further to the east than the original top plan shows, and also goes significantly deeper than the south part of the context. The small strip of soft ash that is the extension to the north cuts the layers lf hard, compact ashy soil in the base of the context. PK has found lime mixed with ash, which was wetted down to compact it. GS has suggested that the compact ash and lime may indicate the presence of a lime kiln in the area
