The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is silty clay. | | Notes: | | 6962 is a layer of a loose, reddish brown soil with many ceramic and tile inclusions. We are excavating this to better understand the “hearth” area and built structure 5956. Excavation has continued into the 18th of May. PK continues to dig the dark brown soft soil especially on the southern end of this context. We have not yet reached the end of the context, but are stopping excavation because we have reached the bottom course of wall 6765 and are stopping to preserve its the integrity. Although the soil seems the same all the way down, a semi-circular loose arrangement of large stones ringing the center may indicate the top of another structure, although this is not clear. We think that maybe 6765 cuts 6962 and 6759, and speculate that the latter two may originally have been one context, although 6962 is a few cm lower. Because of the unevenness of the rocky floor of 6962 we have taken 3 bottom elevations (83.94, 83.71, 83.41.)
