The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt. | | Notes: | | 6981 is a compact layer of light brownish grey ash which is overlaid by 6942. We are excavating to discover why there is such a difference in color and texture to 6942, another ashy layer which directly overlaid 6981. We are taking a flotation sample to discover if the inclusions are different or similar. Another layer of this context continues to the N of 6942 and under 6958. PK has noticed through excavation of this context that 6789 actually consists of 2 walls (one N-S and one E-W at the north end). The ash layer seems to divide these 2 walls. GS has tentatively dated the pottery to the 11th c.
