Description:   The soil color is dark brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   Part of this context was revealed by the removal of context 663. More of it was revealed with the removal of 696. Upon the removal of wall 694, 698 was found to not continue underneath it, and would appear to be cut by the wall. 698 was a dark, moody, ashy deposit that we excavated in the rain. There were no visible chunks of carbon, but every now and again black streaks indicating its presence in the ashy soil. It would appear to be a dump of burnt material following a fire and broken vessels and other rubbish. It was relatively shallow and we marveled to find the continuation of 699 and 700 underneath it.
