Stratum:   This light yellowish brown soil contained ceramic sherds, bone, rooftile, and medium subrounded pebbles. The inclusions took up about 20% of the soil
Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This context is a compacted deposit, possibly a surface, which was cut through by 7053, a foundation trench which was filled by 7054. This context is east of the pit/depression left by the 1960's excavations and extends east as far as the large deep trench, also of the 1960's excavations. In the SE corner, we have come down onto several medium sized rocks, ca. 0.2-0.3m wide, that are roughly level at their tops. There are some very small areas of ash in this context as well. It is possible that this area was a walking surface, and it is evidenc from the small scarp in the western depression that several floors are beneath this as well, ca. 10-12 cm apart in depth. This context is above another layer of compact rubble, which appears quite uniform in nature. This is in the room NE of the courtyard.
