Stratum: | pottery, pebbles ~10%, tiles, bones, Inclusions 30-40 %
Description: | The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes: | This is a further removal of a 3rd lense of pebbly layer fill previously excavated in contexts 636 and 661. During excavation a post hole was found W of pier 573. This pebbly layer continues N of pit 486. During excavation Coin #38 was found (E: 258.99, N: 1014.50, El: 86.56). The N continuation of the pebbly layer was also removed in this context. Following excavation of pebbly layer, we are cleaning N of C 272 (An area not yet excavated this season) in order to clarify changes in soil color/composition. 24 April 2012: The post hole discovered in this context, which remains unexcavated, seems to be in line with a post hole discovered in context 460 in 2009, which was not recognized by the excavators in May of 2009 and therefore was not entered in the final reports. This post hole was located around 258 E and approximately 1011.5 to 1011.58 N, at an elevation of 86.83 (derived from top plan and final elevations for 460). Our posthole is located between 260.03 and 260.16E, and 1011.60 to 1011.72 N, at an elevation of 86.74, and became clear only after the removal of the last of the pebble layers. 2009 post hole MAY be visible in photos 2012-30 and 2012-13.
