Description:   The soil color is yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   As our gentlemen pick-operators finished excavating context 712, we could not but turn our eyes northwards, towards a possible companion baulk standing out like a tiny, squat butte against the bright blue of the Corinthian gulf and the white of Parnassus in the distance. Upon our orders, our pick-companions swung into action against the western side of the baulk. It soon became clear, though, that the northern reaches were, in fact, two contexts, which we have divided into 714 and 715. For notes concerning 714, one ought best consult that context and its records, but for 715, this is the right place.
The context was clearly bounded in the south by our constant companion, wall 420, which drove a fairly straight line E-W through the edge of the scarp in the east. To the north, there was the northern scarp and the area around Disappointment Rock. To the E, there was also the scarp. To the W, meanwhile, there was 714, which was a much more stony context, with a greyer cast to the soil, compared to 715, which was more reddish. We suspect after excavation that 715 and 712 are perhaps the same, with the possibility of a connection with 714, though that is much less certain.
Below 715 there was the much different soil that made up 717, which made separation quite easy, as that layer also underlaid 712. Pottery dating for both contexts should reveal quite a bit more.
