Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   7230 is a layer of fill just south of the north baulk. We think it is loose fill, but it is possible that the soil may be left over from the 20th century excavation. PK has noted the similarity of this context to the 1930s and 1960s disturbances. PK has found the cut of the 20th century excavations. It divides the trench. See the top plan for the southwest corner (267.59, 1044.38). In the area that is not disturbed we have come down on a hard red soil with charcoal inclusions.
