Stratum:   5% rounded and sub-rounded, mainly platy medium pebbles (some fine and some coarse pebbles)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   7238 is a leveling fill within Room E under fill 7228. It fills practically the entire room up to cut 7283 in the South and to the foundation trench cut (later) in the North. It is very similar to fill 7228 above and probably part of the same leveling event. It is similarly dense in sherds and includes similar finds, ceramics, bones, shell, and nails supporting such an interpretation. We will check the pottery briefly for joins to be more specific. The large number of fragile (and often complete) snail shells in 7238 and above in 7228 suggests recent bioturbation, so some contamination in this area is expected. Some lenses of charcoal and ash were noticed. Also, a good amount of brick and tile are in this layer (in addition to some wall plaster) suggesting redoposition of architectural material.
