Type:   Basket
Name:   Nezi Field, context 786
Area:   Nezi Field
Title:   Small patch of black soil over pit
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1106
Context:   786
Page:   0
Date:   2012/05/08
Stratum:   10% tile, pottery, bone, pebbles to cobbes (round and angular)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   A small patch of yellowish sediment under the middle of the bottom bar of the L shape in 785. This was excavated separately because it contained no carbon, and it was not clear if 785 extended under this context, nor what the relationship was of this context to the pit directly to the north.
25 May 2012: 785, 786, 787, 789, and 790 are a series of small fills in the SW corner of the trench, either slightly overlaid by one another or abutting/laid against each other. The pottery dates for all of them are Middle Byzantine (10th-11th npd for 789, 11th npd for the rest) and, as individual contexts, they do not seem to be stratigraphically significant. After group discussion, we are equating all of these contexts within the Harris matrix. - RM
