Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   When we arrived this morning, the workmen had begun to excavate 880, another context that had been revealed by the excavation of 876 (which covered four contexts, of which 878 has been excavated). The soil is soft and poorly mixed with a good deal of pottery.
8 AM
880 is now abutting, at about the same elevation, pit 68, which had yielded fourth c. AD pottery, and eight Byzantine coins in the section that had been excavated in session one. We would be interested in further excavating that pit, once we level the later context to its west.
9 AM
Workmen have finished the context. Thanasi found that the context continues under the clayey soil abutting 880 to the East, and so we will remove that next as context 883.
