Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   This is the dark, narrow strip of soil that makes up the foundation trench on the E side of wall 540 uncovered when digging 914. Having reached ca. 10 cm in places the soil becomes red. The foundation trench narrows to the point where wall 540's construction changes becoming thicker and without clear faces. The foundation trench slopes down to the N cutting through context excavated as 923 as well as a lower ledge in the N in the corner formed by wall 540 and an E-W wall in N of Nezi. This E-W wall in the N may also have been cut by the foundation trench as only soil seems to be preserved in the 10-15 cm where the E-W wall meets wall 540. The remains of the foundation trench along the N ledge are very shallow (1cm or less).
