The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clay. | Notes: | | This is the red earth which is bounded on the S by C193 and on the N by context 849. Clear, thin glass has been recovered. The earth is very dry and comes out in thick, heavy chunks. We are leaving the baulk around the N edge of C193. The earth there is black. Amphora with lid recovered. Plaster noticed. Iron nail recovered. Starting second bucket of pottery. A large boulder in E of context has been uncovered. It appears to be in line with ''Mamma'' first uncovered in context 879. Another boulder in this same line of wall is visible in W of context. Another iron nail. Lamp and another iron nail. A flat piece of marble (flooring or revetment). Thanassi told us that the wall continues to the W, but between the two visible boulders there is soft earth - likely robbing trench or perhaps door. | Context Pottery: | | Coarseware.
