Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the SThe soil color is light pinkish grey. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clay.
Notes:   A mini-basket of a patch of clay floor under tile scatter B51 that is slightly higher in elevation and flatter and smoother. May it be the actual use surface of the flooring, while elsewhere the clay surface revealed under the tile scatter B51 (later excavated as B102=B105=B106=B108) is the sub-flooring associated with B99? It is the smoothness of B99 that primarily sets it apart from the clay surface around it, and suggests that it may have been worn smooth through use. It is possible that the pickman who excavated the tile scatter B51=B59 resting on the clay surface removed the rest of the used surface of the clay flooring along with B51.
[Later note: B102 et al. are not sub-flooring because some roof tiles were lying flat on them, thus they are a phase of flooring].
It is possible that B99 may be of the same flooring phase as B100 and/or B94, since these contexts are also patches of clay at higher elevations resting on the flooring excavated as B102=B105=B106=B108. But possibly not because of other factors such as soil description. [Later note: B100 later made equal to B102 et al.].
Four shovelfuls of of the deposit were sent to the west sieve = 100% of the deposit because it was so small.
