Context:   279

Lot:   Lot 2015-070
Stratum:   20% angular coarse gravel; soil is loose and feels like dry compacted clay.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context was opened to explore the fill of the pit immediately northeast of the Roman bench (context 17). Thus far the soil is quite loose and is coming up in clayey chunks. This remained constant throughout the depth of the pi, thought the soil became slightly darker brown and had less clayey chunks coming up. There was only a small amount of carbon in this context, and most finds were bone and and small pottery sherds.
The pit was quite deep but eventually ended in bedrock and the context was closed.
