Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Initially we were going to open what is now 317 first, but Thanassis opened 315 instead because 315 was higher. After excavating, it is clear that 315 and 317 abut each other.
Below 315 Thannasis uncovered what seems to be the foundation trench of the east wall, containing red soil and many small rocks.
He also uncovered below 315 two bothroi or potstands or koupia (a hole in the ground for keeping food, wine, etc. cool), roughly twice the size of the bothros north of them cut into the bedrock. All 3 of these bothroi contain soft black soil. The two southern ones are cut by the foundation trench for the east wall.
Thanassis thinks that 307 is another bothros associated with the three aforementioned, but its lack of alignment with them makes us doubtful. The three to the north are fairly well aligned with each other along the east wall.
