Stratum:   rock of various sizes, rubble, a few sherds (2 quite large)
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   In digging this deposit, Coastas uncoverd the pier block in the N corner of the room, which can also be seen in the adjacent room 1R. We look forward to uncovering the pier block in the S corner.
The tin foil found just north of the center of this context need not make the entire context modern: according to Guy, it could have been brought in by ants.
Guy thinks foundation trench 322 connects with the so-far unexcavated foundation trench along the N wall, the west corner of which shows signs of having been dug by Broneer. Broneer at least didn't dig in the E corner of the room.
In digging the part of this context in the E corner of the room, Coastas fully uncovered the block that excavation of 308 had initial uncovered. This block is rougher and larger than expected, but must be the pier block. We reason that it was made roughly, then laid down first; as work progesson on the wall, pieces were cut out of the pier block to keep the wall level.
The northern end of this deposit is significantly shallower than the rest because it rests on the pier block in the northing corner of the room. (The same is true of the north foundation trench; see notes to context 345)
