Stratum:   20% very small spherical rounded fine pebbles, 5% charcoal/carbon inclusions. Soil of 28 is softer than 33, with very small rounded pebble inclusions.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   This context was excavated to find the extent of the surface that seems to be sitting atop bedrock in the northeast corner of the room. This context is located at the northwest side of the room in the original Greek plan. By searching for the extent of the bedrock we are trying to determine what soil, etc. was cut into when the well was dug originally.
The soil is rather similar to contexts 28 and 30. WE are using 'pebbly' inclusions as an indicator of the context. Pockets of 'non-pebbly' appear but 'pebbly' soil appears below these pockets - particularly along 33's northern edge. Bedrock appears, with a clear distinctive line of difference along a N-S axis approximately 1 meter from the western edge of the context. Because of the bedrock, the lower level of the context is very uneven. The cut of pebbly soil is deeper in the northernmost section of the context.
A clear line separates the deeper red pebbly soil from a shallower layer to the (along the bedrock line). This line possibly signals the western edge of the robbing trench for the N-S wall still extant on the S. end of the room (between Greek shops 6 and 7). The bedrock was carved out to create the walll, which explains the shallow bedrock layer just east of the wall's boundaries. Unclear soil change at the possible edge of the robbing trench possibly led to varying soil types. We will close the context and continue digging the shallower leve in a new context (35). We removed the upper layer, which is likely part of context 28? (the one above). It popped cleanly off a soft pebbly layer below and out of well from the bedrock and context.
