Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1110
Context:   357
Date:   2016/04/13
Stratum:   Small rocks, a few marble chunks, very few pieces of charcoal
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We open this context to remove the fill underneath the cement surface to the east of the well (and Structure 356). The soil is a yellowish brown sandy silt. In the eastern portion of the context, we uncover three large amphora pieces lying horizontally on an underlying surface -- these are photographed and coordinates taken (E: 338.35, N: 1089.54, H 81.71). In the southwest quadrant of the context, we expose a yellow-green clay earthen floor surface. In the northeastern corner, we begin to expose the (probable) foundation trench for the Late Wall built immediately inside the Stoa walls at the eastern border of our area.
Later note: upon sweeping later, it becomes more clear that the yellow clay surface/floor extends further to the north, with a patch at NW (see plan for Context 366).
