Title:   S-curve at southern edge of floor west of well
Notebook:   1110
Context:   401
Date:   2016/04/17
Description:   The context shape in plan is irregular. The top break of the cut is gradual-to-sharp. The sides of the cut are convex. The break at the base of the cut is gradual-to-sharp. The base of the cut is n/a. Truncation: truncated to s. by Cut 355.
Notes:   The removal of Context 395 revealed to the west of the well a surface characterized by charcoal streaks and a second, abutting surface, Context 399. The boundary between the two is a rather sharp, s-shaped curve in plan, which continues to the west out of our area. Its eastern and southern boundaries have not yet been uncovered and it seems likely that the cut was truncated by Broneer's excavations, as represented by our cut Contexts 336 and 355, but the situation remains unclear at the moment.
The formation process is therefore unknown. However, Context 395 seems to form part of a legitimate floor surface across the room at approximately 81.40 m elevation, and it is likely that this cut is somehow related to the addition of fill dumped on top of that level in the Early Roman pd.
