Description:   The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   18/4/16
We begin to remove the reddish pebbly matrix which stretches across the center of the room and which may have been cut into to construct the later southern crosswall. The matrix is extremely rocky, especially in the southern half of the context. This appears to be another fill layer, given the presence of both Hellenistic and prehistoric sherds in the pottery basket and of obsidian blades.
In the northern portion of the context, this deposit covers an extremely pebbly layer and exposes the edges of the red surface in the NW corner of the excavation area. The pebbly matrix may be the floor packing for this partially destroyed patch of floor.
In the southern portion of the context, there are fewer pebbles on the exposed surface and more larger stones, although the matrix is still very pebbly. Especially in the very southern area of the context, there is a great deal of pottery embedded in the exposed matrix (excavated as 456).
