Context:   455

Lot:   Lot 2016-012
Stratum:   limited pottery; many small rocks and compacted sand balls; very sandy greenish clay lumps
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We open this context to remove the remainder of the fill lying within the NW corner of the sector E of the "Broneer Sondage" (Cut 336) and S of the Robbing Trench (355)-- that is, 4 Rear East--continuing context 454 in effect but under a different context number since the soil became rather softer and more grayish.
As we excavate, it becomes clear that this fill is cut through and therefore predates the remaining contents of the the "Broneer Sondage." We arbitrary close the context, leaving a thin baulk, in order to remove that soil (as Context 473).
Coin 120 was found in the sieve.
