Lot:   Lot 2016-018
Stratum:   light yellowish/orange brown silty sand with charcoal, bone, ceramic, rock, and tile inclusions
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We open this context to remove the fill still remaining in the area known as the 'Broneer Sondage.' While excavating context 455, it began to be apparent that its fill seems to abut the fill within the 'Broneer Sondage' fill (i.e. fill still remaining in Cut 336). Since the fill within the Broneer Sondage fill is (as far as we know) fill within a later cut, it therefore must be fully excavated before continuing excavation in the area of context 455, and so a bulk is left at the W edge of 455 while we excavate 473. The fill is a slightly darker yellowish/orange silty sand with rock inclusions. When this fill is comepletely removed, we reach bedrock (not stereo?). At the moment, we are uncertain about the nature of this cut and its fill. Some of the top layers (in 323) were definitely modern fill, but given the new possibility of a wall in this area (given the 'foundation trench' nature of context 451), this cut could also be part of a robbing trench for that wall.
