We open this context to excavate the strip of slightly greyer fill along the northeastern part of Room 4 Rear East, exposed during the excavation of Context 426. It was initially thought that this fill might prove to belong to the Late Wall foundation trench (Context 375), because of its similar appearance and the discrepancy in shape between the northern and southern foundation trench cuttings (cf Cuts 373 and 377), although this was somewhat problematic since the present context was overlaid by several layers of fill from the level of the foundation trench top.
Although the deposit had a greyish hue on the surface, when excavated beyond the upper crust it turned out to be mostly orange-brown silty sand.
We close when reaching the same level of bedrock/stereo found elsewhere in the vicinity. The fill traces a downward sloping depression in this stereo but it does not seem to fill a deliberate cut, on preserved evidence.
A later note: two fragments of the same vessel (non-joining) were found in this context and in Context 455.
