| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt. | |
| Notes: | we began digging this context first thing the morning of 22/4. the undercut of 496 made it liable to collapse, so we wanted to excavate it immediately. Guy and Κostas think it may be a floor based on its compaction, the concentrations of sherds, and the ash (a hardening agent). We decided to take a water sieve sample because of the amount of carbon. The exceptions to the water sieve are the chunk we sent in for sampling of ash and the step we left on guy's instruction as a section for takis, and what fell into the south foundation trench, which we dry sieved separately there is a concentration of snails and slightly different colored soil right under the step guy thinks the snails might have been consumed because of many there are, but snails seek out soft soil, and 500 was hard-- perhaps they just dug down to this soil and stopped | |
