Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   panos thinks that the cobbles in the NW and center of 1R are a collapsed wall. At this point we are not sure; the stones seem to go much deeper towards the northwest (they are visible in the scarp of 301), but further excavation is necessary for clarity. We are excavating the cobbles in layers-- the cobbles in 524 are highest, so we removed them first. Panos also thinks that the two surfaces-- the one below 520 and the one below 521--might be related to the wall and to each other. The former has pottery trampled into it but the latter does not (perhaps they are inside and outside surfaces, respectively).
