Title:   Deep Rocky Fill Cut by Bothros
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1110
Context:   562
Date:   2016/05/31
Lot:   Lot 2016-037
Stratum:   the soil was both clayey and sandy. Pottery, fine to coarse rounded to angular spherical to tabular pebbles, some cobbles, lime, bits of vrachos, bone, small bits of clay, modern roots, mudbrick, burnt rock
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is mixed- see description.
Notes:   At first the soil of this context was lighter and harder to mold, likely as a result of exposure.
This rocky fill lay directly under the northern portion of the first lens of the sandy surface (551) and appears to be leveling fill for that surface, filling the gully in the bedrock. It seems to comprise the entire northern edge of bothros 548, and may also represent its bottom.
This fill may be related to the rocks that run under 561, but at this point we are not certain.
Removal of this context made it clear that the bedrock in the north corner is cut-- it appears to have been sloping already, then cut down further.
