Stratum:   fine to coarse rounded (very few) to angular spherical to tabular pebbles, pottery, bone, carbon
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the NW. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   this surface appears to have been in use in conjunction with the bedrock steps, since it is as about the same distance below the last steps as the steps are from each other. It is patchy, but most likely a surface-- it is quitehard and compact. Below it and exposed towards the NW (where the surface is not preserved) is a thick (based on the scarp) layer of rocky fill with darker, softer soil.
Upon excavation we realized that the surface was preserved to a much greater extent than we had originally thought.
