Stratum:   50% tile fragments, 20% small irregular large unworked limestone
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   This context was begun arbitrarily after ca. 25cm of excavation in 94. I believe that the same fill continues into 95, although with fewer tiles. The soil is becoming more damp by 7.94m bewlow the well head. At this point we also found a nearly complete cover tile with black ash clinging to the undersurface. Marios reports that there is very little ash in the soil. The tile is showing no traces of burning, this mayb just be a pocket of ashy soil. Just below this level, three worked limestone fragments are out - they are possibly part of an upper wall as they have cutings for inserts. At 7.95m below the well head we found terracotta architectural dragment from the stoa's roof. It, along with three fragments of tile, two removed from the same level and they were noticed above, have traces of burnt organic material attached to them. I photographed them when first removed and damp so that the burnt material was clearly visible. It is almost certainly evidence for a fire at some point removing the roof. We are now changing contexts to 97. We also found a fragment of a lower slab of a hopper mill.
Tiles: 109= 54.5kg + 47 =2.3kg
N.B. The soil is so wet that we are going to stop dry sieving and start water sieving with the next context.
