Context Type:   deposit
Title:   Fill of cut within drain (89)
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   98
Date:   2015/05/24
Stratum:   70% carbon, 2% coarse pebbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This context was opened because there is a clear cut on the west side of the drain, the soil has many inclusions, including carbon, but almost nothing else. The cut on the west is made of a light yellowish brown, flecked with carbon. A martyr is still being left on the north side in order to prevent contamination from 84. Unlike 96, there seems to be no shells and no wood pieces. On its southern boundary, there is bedrock. The soil goes directly against the blocks of wall 38.

Excavation of the soil has yielded approximately 20 L of soil. Due to the high carbon content, 20L will be sent to the water sieve for flotation. No material culture other than carbon was recovered from excavation, however material may be found during sieving. A cut for the foundation course may have been discovered in the northern section of this context. Also, the scarp of context (XXX), possbily the drainage channel cut, contains almost entirely carbon in the bottom of 7-9 cm of 11 cm total height. This context will be closed to open the roof of the E-W drainage channel.
