| Notes: | This is the cut for Grave 2016-08. which in all likelyhood represents the outline for a few different grave cuts that were not able to be distinguished due to reuse of fill and bioturbation. Skeleton contexts 1005 and 1011 were found at the east end of the cut, NE of Grave 1990-40 in the SW corner. Skeleton 1006 was found in th emiddle of the fill (1004) in the center of the cut. However, this was prior to our extension of the cut to the east. Previously it was thought that cut 1009 ended just east of the articulated feet of Skeleton 1006. However, the exposure of skeleton 1012 at lower level in the same general area as Skeleton 1006 caused us to reconsider th eeastern edge of the cut. The lower half of the skeleton 1012 at a lower level in the same general area as Skeleton 1006 caused us to reconsider the eastern edge of the cut. The lower half of the skeleton 1012 (lower limbs) were extending beneath the eastern edge of the "cut." Upon further consideration, Kostos felt that the soil was the same and that eastern cut was artificial. So, we extended the cut 1009 to include the limits of Skeleton 1012. In this process, Kostos defined a shallow cut around Skeleton 1012 mostly within 1009. But, it may be that 1009 cut into the cut for Skeleton 1012. 2016/06/08 This cut context was closed today once we observed a tile covering (Str. 1016) extending into the west scarp of this cut. This cut likely truncated the original cut for the burial that is likely under the tile covering. | |
