Stratum:   Tile fragments, fine rounded tabular pebbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is light brownish white. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context was the removal of mortar and tile overlying a tile threshold in Wall 20, west wall of the church. This threshold is an earlier threshold to that of Structure 22. This uneven mortar and til on top of flat lying tiles may have been used to support a more elegant threshold such as a curved marble structure as the curved angle of the tiles and mortar suggest. There is a curved marble slab resting on its straight horizontal surface directly to the west of this threshold. It may have originally been part of this threshold. The underlying tiles now are clearly arranged so that they are in two rows, one on the west side and one on the east side. There is rubble filling the space between them, over which this mortar and til deposit was laid.
A marble spiral was recovered from the fill.
No pottery was collected.
