Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 1103

Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 1103
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Ashy deposit, 2nd from top, N/E courtyard, Unit 1
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1112
Context:   1103
Date:   2017/5/15
Lot:   Lot 2017-004
Stratum:   Tile (5%, 2-5cm), ceramics (5%, 1-5cm), fine to medium pebbles (5%), bone (<1%), charcoal (3%, 3-5mm).
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   The boundaries of 1103 were defined by as follows: in the south, by the edges of the paved courtyard (though the floor can be observed continuing under paving stones); in the north, by the north wall; in east, by a scarp (it had been decided bisect the unpaved courtyard and excavate an area spanning 2m from the west scarp); and in the west, by the west edge of the scarp. Since on the east unexcavated side the continuation of deposit 1103 has not been excavated, it is not possible to assess if context 1103 was cut by pit 1078. Based on ground surface observations, there is a higher concentration of stones and tile in the southern half of the excavation area, while the northern half has darker soil. It is uncertain whether this is due to soil type or due to the humidity: 1102 had just been removed in the northern half. 1103 seemed to come down on cement floor layer in some areas, but on a yellowish clay layer in other areas. Coin recovered in situ: N: 1040.096; E: 110.974; elevation: 85.290.
Deposit 1103 appears to be very similar in terms of matrix and inclusion to the ashy deposit 1070, excavated in session 1. 1103 and 1170 have also very similar elevation and they might be considered equal.
