Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 113
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Courtyard surface 2nd from the top
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   113
Date:   2014/04/16
Stratum:   15% small angular cobbles; bone and shell; small tile fragments; 1-2 small angular boulders
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Revealed by Deposit 109 in the SE corner of the courtyard and our excavation area was a second road/courtyard surface. It did not continue far nroth, but was only a very small stip. The surface of the 2nd was found because of the harder top. There was a clear distinction between the south with a compact surface and the north that did not reveal it when Deposit 109 was removed. Also there are fewer inclusions, especially shell. This was a thin layer of surface and perhaps Deposit 109 was a resurfacing of Deposit 113. Its east and south extent are unknown because of the arbitrary martyr left resulting from conservation work on the walls of the Frankish shop and church (Units 1 and 2). Once the surface was fully removed, it revealed the same sark brownish that is throughout the courtyard.
